The Big Gulp has a very large 13" high x 16" wide x 10" deep opening which allows you to easily swallow up sawdust and chips from machines that used to be hard to contain: miter saws, radial arm saws, lathes, planers, carving and sanding stations. It is lightweight and portable which makes it easy to move from machine to machine. Made of tough ABS plastic with a 4" OD port.

Big Gulp will simply swallow the dust! by ()

Unlike the other reviewer who has based his entire review on frustration unrelated to the actual performance of the product, I will tell you that if you have a dust collector with sufficient suction (I probably have 1000cfm at the hose where this is located, 1350cfm at the unit itself) it will flat out suck up every bit of dust within 2 feet of it, and even farther out for fine dust. I have wheeled my dust collector right over to my lathe, which is where I use this, and ran it off about 3 feet of hose and it was simply incredible! It was catching about 95% of all the lathe shavings, only the biggest stuff would hit the floor, and not much at all really. Really a great piece if you have the suction to power that big opening. But, as with most all dust collection pieces, they are not all made to a "standard" fitting size, so you may need to work something out. If you have set up anything similar before, it shouldn't be an issue.

Big Gulp Dust Port by ()

I bought the Big Gulp to use with my miter saw primarily. I have discovered the 4" port is apparently nominal and doesn't meet any known standard similar to plumbing fittings. I went to four separate woodworking shops trying to find a quick connect port to plug directly onto the Big Gulp rather than installing the dust hose directly. Not one coupling would fit properly. There doesn't seem to be any standards in the Dust Collection Industry relating to 4" parts hooking together regardless of brand. There isn't any problem with PVC plumbing fittings working together between various manufacturers. The male portion of any connector has to be a smaller diameter than the female portion or they will not fit together. You can't have 4" vs. 4" which none of the manufacturers seem to understand. Someone in the Dust Connector Industry needs to take control and get fittings standardized so they will interchange with each other. A bare 4" hose will slip on the Big Gulp; but I want quick change capability.
