I had been having tearout problems on some really hard exotics (ebony, katalox, etc) with my other spiral carbide bit (it was getting dull), and needed a new bit that had both top & bottom bearings. So I finally caved in & purchased this bit. First thing's first: it's a monstrous bit. A lot larger than it looks in the pics... which is nice. Tightened all the set screws & installed it in my table router. Turned the speed down to about 18k rpm (max for this bit), and ran a 1" piece of end-grain alder (with a template attached) against it to test it. Wow! Shavings were like dust, but not sawdust... like a dustball: very fine fiber shavings. For flush routing it's almost spot-on, which is good as I can sand down to final dimensions. We're talking about 1/32" here. Next piece I ran was piece of 1/4" katalox glued to 1" maple, and trimmed the katalox to match the maple. Absolutely beautiful cut quality. No chipping/splintering... just super easy to use. Hopefully it'll stay sharp for a long time, as I'm pretty hard on carbide bits.
